"Maybe I just don't want to find out you've been dragged into the woods and dumped in the lake," Jonathan scoffs, even as he reaches across to pull the door shut if Billy wasn't going to do it himself. There's a split second that he looks up at Billy standing there with his hand still on the hood of the car, a conflicted look on his face. He meant it, he doesn't want anything to happen to Billy, even if he is kind of an asshole. He still has nightmares about the decoy body that was tossed into the quarry after his brother disappeared, every what-if lurching into the forefront of his mind when he least wanted it.
Before he sits back up he adds, "be careful who you talk to. People can be really shitty about guys like you." Male omegas, people from out of town, bad boys in jewelry and looks off a hair metal record sleeve, all of them would make at least some people in Hawkins regard Billy as a lot of things, none of them good.
He watches Billy in his rear-view when he can finally pull out of the lot, privately cursing himself for letting this happen. He must have fucked up his dose if it's not just suppressing, but causing more adverse reactions. He needs to talk to Eddie.
But before that, he needs to get home and make sure that nothing else has happened to his family.
Billy knows first hand how people regard people like him. He lived with a man who reminded him at every available chance what a fucking disgusting disappointment he was. Neil Hargrove's abomination whore of a son. Couldn't even do being an omega correctly. Too brash, too loud, too reckless. Too insubordinate and disrespectful. Yeah, Billy knew exactly what dangers came with being a male omega. He lived with one.
And he'd seen the looks. Sure, most of the kids that weren't afraid of him, respected him enough despite his designation. Some of them respected him because the were afraid of him. But their parents? Yeah, Billy had seen the stares, the wrinkled noses, the disgust. And he didn't fucking care. He wasn't about to kowtow to these people just because they had some bullshit idea that an omega's duty was to be submissive and pregnant and, most importantly, female.
He lets Byers pull the door closed with a smirk, stepping back and watching the other teen leave the parking lot before he finally returns to the Camaro and heads home, already coming up with an excuse for if Neil is home first as to why he's so late.
The next day passes without any fanfare beyond the occasional sneeze when he catches a whiff of Byers in the hallway but he doesn't see him.
The day after that, he learns that Jonathan had ditched with the Wheeler bitch and if Billy is a little more aggressive on the court once he learns that, well, no one knows to make the connection between the two things.
