"That's what I meant. You could teach. Set up shop by the bar." Marcus could do that, buy up a place, sell some of his assets that would give them start up cash that would buy something small. This was LA, people passed by, sight see. It was a business that would work as long as they found themselves a good beach.
"You find us the location, I'll fund it," Marcus said, giving Billy a light kiss back. "I don't know the first thing about beaches, so you'll have to look."
"Yeah? You'd fund a place that I can teach kids how to surf?" There's a feeling in Billy's chest he can't quite place and the smile that comes to his face is full of emotions he can't name. The kiss he presses to Marcus' lips this time says all the things that he can't put into words.
He can't remember a time when anyone had done so much for him; even his mum hadn't taken him with her when she escaped his abusive father and here is Marcus, giving them a home and offering to give him a job he owned himself. "Thank you."
"Yeah... If that's what you want." Billy answered with a kiss instead, a
long sensual moment that was more passionate than deep, and Marcus returned
it in kind, to tell Billy how happy he was making this ancient human.
He could run the beach bar, conduct his business as the Sinnerman there for
a while. The mantle was still relatively new in his eyes but had picked up
a lot of power behind it in the decade or two he's had it. He had planned
to run it at a distance while he was in Hawkins, but it wasn't necessary
anymore now that he was in LA.
"You'll be great at it. I've seen you with kids, you know how to handle
them."
"Maybe? It's not really anything I'd thought about." Billy smiles into the kiss and presses his forehead against Marcus' and just rests there for a moment.
His next words warm Billy's heart even further and he flushes a little bit, cheeks going pink. "You really think so? Most of them are annoying little shits but the ones that really want to learn are great."
"Yeah," Marcus said, just enjoying having Billy close to him as they watched the last of the twilight together. They cleaned up and headed in early after their long day of moving, sleeping only on the mattress on the ground since the bed wasn't even set up yet.
Come morning Marcus ordered them a take out breakfast before Billy awoke, and brought it back with fresh coffee from the local place. He figured most of the day would be for unpacking their stuff. Not that they had a lot, but Billy had some and Marcus bought new furniture that required assembly. "We can head out to the beach later in the afternoon," he suggested as he sat back against the wall on the mattress, the takeout boxes for their breakfast between them. It was technically breakfast in bed.
Billy slept like a log despite their mattress being on the floor and the sounds of the city outside their windows that he hadn't realised he'd missed until it was there again. Sure, the quiet in Hawkins was great but he could hear the waves and that was beautiful.
He wakes when Marcus gets up but makes no move to get out of bed. When his partner arrives, Billy sits up and takes the offered coffee. "I can't wait to get down there. Feel the sand between my toes again for the first time in years."
"I thought Hawkins had a beach." Marcus never actually went to it, but he thought there was a small man made one somewhere that a company put up years ago. Not to say it was a good place, but it had sand and water, a place where kids could hang out. Nothing compared to a real one, he suppose. Marcus never had an affinity for water.
They divided up the boxes and Marcus dug into his. He hadn't felt this good at the start of a day in a very long time, and lately, after being with Billy, that seemed to be everyday.
“The Quarry? Nah. You can swim there but a lot of people avoided it after a kid that wasn’t really a kid was found dead there.” People used the pool more than anything else now and Billy understood that. Especially with Max and her friend’s being friends with the kid that had had his death faked there.
Breakfast is delicious but Billy mostly enjoys the time just spent with Marcus, which is why he steals a salty, bacon flavoured kiss. “I still can’t believe we’re here.”
"You've said that only a hundred times since we've arrived," he teased back with a soft chuckle before he took Billy chin in his fingers and pulled him back for a proper kiss.
But Marcus did realize what seemed like everyday to him may seem unbelievable to someone like Billy, so he only smiled at his lover.
"If we're done, let's get up and get the day started." They had a house to set up and clean and beaches to hunt down and visit.
“I know. But I’ve just... I’ve wanted to come back here since I left when I was 16 and it’s crazy that I’m here.” He leans into the kiss and sighs softly, resting his forehead against Marcus’ for a long moment. “Thank you for doing this with me.”
Leaning against Marcus is easy and Billy contemplates arguing getting up at all but he knows that Marcus has a point; their home won’t set itself up. “Let’s do this.”
"It wasn't that hard of a wish to fulfill." Not with his resources and power, and it was so simple and straightforward thing that Billy wanted. So why not.
Cleaning up trash, Marcus had everything thrown back into the take out bags and wrapped up for him to put in the trash later. By the time they were done unpacking, there would likely be lots more that need to be taken out.
"You get started with what you want unpacked... There's lots of room for everything." And it wasn't as if Marcus brought much.
“Maybe not for you.” Billy hadn’t really had people in his life who wanted to do things that made him happy; Billy’s mum had left and refused to come back, his dad had hated him from day one. Good things didn’t really happen to Billy.
Billy achieved this one himself by managing to bag himself an immortal and sneak his way in past his walls. He made his own happiness here, and for the short period that it would last, it brought a light to Marcus' world as well.
"Sure. We've got the boxes marked, it shouldn't take long to organize everything. Let's unbox them first and we can figure out where everything goes."
For the whole morning they worked diligently, working to set everything up in the new empty house. Despite how little they had, it still took a considerably long time, and it was late afternoon before they knew it. But at least Marcus managed to assemble the bed frame so they would have a proper bed to sleep on that night.

Until Marcus.
