Somehow, Billy had survived. They'd managed to hold him together long enough for the doctors to put him back together and they'd even somehow managed to save his baby.
But they hadn't saved Jim and Billy had taken that news about as well as he had the news that he'd tried to kill El before fighting through His hold to save her.
El had come to him -she'd fucking walked here!- to tell him that Jim was alive. They both knew that he hadn't believed her even though he'd pretended just to try and make her feel better about it.
She'd left just as dramatically as she'd come and Billy had spent a lot of that time since curled up in the bed, worrying about her and the other brats.
He didn't expect the loud knock or for Jim to be standing in the door way.
The last half hour had past in a blur and Billy was being towed away into the bedroom by one Chief Jim Hopper and away from the commotion that was everyone else in the small cabin living area.
"What do you think?" Hopper said before sighing and sitting on the bed, pulling Billy to stand between his legs for just a moment. His head dipped forward, forehead pressing to the bump Billy now sported. That was definitely something they were gonna have to talk about.
Still, he felt like he deserved a damn minute after everything he'd been through the last few months. He'd been ready to die. He sure as hell had not been happy to see that El had found the facility and broken in. Had put herself in that kind of danger for him.
"I'm here. I'm home. Not going anywhere...not for a long damn time." He sighed before slowly pulling his head back and then letting his hands move up and over Billy's stomach. "Billy...how far along? Was this..." He hesitated, tilting his head. "Our last time?"
Billy sways where he stands, his hands coming up to rest in Hopper's hair, both as a way to comfort the other man and to steady himself. His eyes burn with tears and he blinks, letting them fall down his face and drip onto Jim's head.
He's cupping Jim's face when he moves, and his expression shifts into a soft smile. "Yeah. Of course it is! There's... there's no one else. Never."
"Never thought I'd have a kid again. I mean...not counting El. You know what I mean." He said softly, shifting a bit before pulling the younger man down and into his lap so he could just hold him close again.
"I didn't mean it like that though. I didn't think there was...anyone else." He murmured, bumping his nose against the other's jaw lightly, closing his eyes. "Just wasn't sure if...how long, you know? When that...thing had ahold of you." He whispered, stroking his hands slowly along his sides and then smiling.
"Glad you're okay though. You and the baby. Gonna put our family back together properly."
Billy goes easily into Jim's lap, his knees on the bed on either side of his thighs and his arms wrapping around the alpha's neck. There are tears and a smile and a whole wave of emotion filling the room with scents raging from acrid fear and sweet happiness. His whole world has been tipped upside down in the best way and he's a mess.
"I didn't think it'd survive, but El... It was like she protected it until they were able to put me back together." His scent shifts again.
Billy had woken up when Jim had gotten out of bed and he'd felt mild discomfort then. However, he'd let his body drag him back into the land of sleep and chosen to ignore it -they weren't the first Braxton Hicks he'd had so he wasn't worried- they'd go away eventually.
One surprisingly painful squeeze in his abdomen pulled him back out of sleep a while later and Billy quickly realised that they weren't Braxton Hicks; he was in labour and the baby was coming, whether he was ready to accept it or not.
Panic set in with the third contraction and the best way to combat that? Ignoring it.
He didn't call Jim and he did his best to go about his day as normal, stopping when the pain got bad enough that he needed to. Most of the afternoon was spent in bed while El watched her shows in the lounge.
The omega was dozing when Jim came home and he kissed him hello, watched him get changed and then told him to come get him for dinner. Of course, by the time dinner came around, he was in far too much pain to stomach anything and he opted out, choosing to have a shower instead.
It went without saying that it wasn't his finest idea and he sent half the items in the shower crashing to the ground when a particularly painful contraction hit. He groaned through the pain, wanting it to end so he could call for Jim.
Jim hadn't liked that Billy didn't eat any dinner but he chose not to say anything at the moment. El looked between the two of them and then watched Billy for a moment.
Still, the two of the continued on with dinner until the moment they heard the sounds in the shower. Jim shot up and ran to the bathroom. "Billy? Baby, are you okay?" He asked before shoving the shower curtain to the side so he could check on his mate.
Billy can't seem to catch his breath, leaning heavily against the shower wall as his body tells him in no uncertain terms that this baby was coming and there was absolutely no way of stopping it now.
He hears Jim's worried voice beside him and the only noise he makes is a loud sob, one hand coming off the wall to reach for his mate.
He grabbed Billy as soon as he could, moving him to sit on the floor and
sliding down with him. He pulled Billy into his arms before shouting for El
to call Joyce or maybe he should have her call the paramedics?
Still, he needed to focus on Billy and he didn't care about the rest. He
just pulled Billy close and stroked a hand through his hair. "I'm here,
baby. Not going anywhere I promise."
Billy leans heavily against Jim's chest and whines through the next contraction, gasping for breath as soon as it releases.
"Jim, I'm not ready." Tears leak out of the corner of his eyes and mix with the water that covers his skin. He presses his face into the side of the alpha's neck and tries to focus on his scent, letting it bring comfort to him. "I can't do this."
See, the thing of it is, is that Billy has been trying to court Chief Jim Hopper for months. Well, specifically, 102 days. He thought that maybe the alpha had finally gotten the damn hint when he agreed to help Billy through his latest heat -his second in Jim's company- but as soon as it was over and they'd said their goodbyes at the end of the weekend, the Chief had gone back to the same behaviour as before.
Billy had tried everything; he took him coffee and donuts to the station, he'd dropped off a decent lunch and even brought in a good dinner a few times when he was working late. He'd been nice to the kids -he'd even apologised to Max's little boyfriend and Steve Harrington- and things had been... less tense between them. They seemed less afraid at least. He'd flirted, winked, left his shirt open just a bit, everything he'd ever done to anyone else that had worked and nothing.
The Chief was oblivious.
Except, now, maybe he had his chance. It was 10 days since his last heat started. A week since it ended. Max had informed him that they were all going over to the Byer's place for a movie sleep over and he knew he had his chance.
With dinner in hand -take away, but more than just a shitty burger- and a decent bottle of whiskey he'd flirted his way into buying, Billy makes his way to Jim's cabin. His hair is done meticulously, just a sneak peak of chest is on display and he know these jeans are clinging to his ass in a way that suggests they're barely there.
He looks fucking fantastic.
And goddamnit, by the end of the night Jim had better fucking realise that Billy wanted him for more than just a night -or three.
Jim sighed as he took another sip of his beer before setting it down and staring at the sad sandwich he'd made for himself. He'd recently gotten off the phone with Joyce and had listened to her berate him for being so oblivious to Billy Hargrove's obvious affections. He'd argued with her, shaking his head but it has started him thinking.
But then there was a knock on the door and he got up, scratching his bare chest absently. He assumed it was Steve or maybe even El saying she'd forgotten something. What he wasn't expecting when he opened the door was to see Billy looking...well, sinful came to mind.
"Billy, what are you doing here? You know its late?" He glanced at the clock before looking back and then seeing the bottle of whiskey in the young omega's hand, giving him a stern look. "Now, where did you get that? Can't stay outta trouble can you?"
The smirk that comes to Billy's face has been known to cause panties to drop and he has no shame in using it now, one brow raising in Hopper's direction. Closing the distance between them, he brushes right up against Jim's chest as he slides into the cabin.
"Can't tell you all my secrets, Chief." He raises the paper bag in his hand. "I brought dinner. And it's damn sight better than what you've got yourself over there."
He stared down at the omega, his head tilting down just a bit and inhaling
the other's scent when he came so close. "Smart move. Might be off duty,
doesn't mean I won't still bust your ass." He said, raising an eyebrow.
He did shut the door and follow though. "Dinner? What kind of dinner?" He
glanced at the sandwich on his plate, one bite already taken of it. Just
two thin slices of deli meat and cheap cheese. Anything would probably be
better than that.
He looked Billy over them, both eyebrows raising as he got a damn good look
at the jeans clinging to Billy's ass.
"Yeah, we both know that's not all you'd do to my ass." He makes his own way into the small kitchen and puts the bag and the whiskey down. It's easy to pull things out of the bag; a roast chicken, some mashed potatoes and a container of mixed vegetables. He was fairly certain the brown sludge was gravy but it didn't look overly appetising.
"Real dinner because I know you don't eat properly if El isn't around."
The fact that Hopper caved and invited Billy over had surprised the hell out of him but it absolutely hadn't stopped him from putting on his tightest possible pants and headed on over.
It was easy to type his address into his nav app and follow them out until the cabin in the middle of nowhere.
It doesn't take too long to get there and he doesn't bother knocking, just uses the key to let himself in, stashing it back in it's place and heading towards what he hopes is Jim's room.
Oh this was a bad idea. A very bad idea. A very, very bad idea fueled by a whole lot of whiskey and his very hard dick.
Fuck.
Jim sighed, pushing his fingers through his hair before shifting when he heard the front door open. He listened, smirking when his door opened. "Got it in one." He said, laughing softly before shifting over on the bed and turning onto his side.
"Honestly I was kind of hoping to watch you strip...but I can try." He
laughed, reaching out when the teen was close enough before dragging him
into the bed. He pulled him into a heated kiss, biting his lower lip.
"Jesus you know how bad I've wanted to get my hands on you?" He breathed
out.
He fell back against the pillows on the bed again, obviously pretty drunk.
He pushed his hands under the teen's shirt before dragging it up.
Billy goes easily, standing between the older man's thighs and leaning into the kiss. His hands slide to Jim's shoulders and it puts his chest -exposed through the open shirt- right in front of his face.
"As badly as I have, probably." He smirks. "C'mon, Old Man, get me naked already."

The last half hour had past in a blur and Billy was being towed away into the bedroom by one Chief Jim Hopper and away from the commotion that was everyone else in the small cabin living area.
"Yeah I'm really here." He said softly, sitting on the bed and sighing. He was so tired he could probably sleep for a whole month and still not feel like it was enough. He could feel a wariness and exhaustion coming through their bond too, being so close to his mate.
"And I'm not going anywhere. They won't be coming after us...El...took the whole place down." He said, shrugging before wrapping his arms around him.
Billy stands between Jim's knees and leans down, pressing his forehead to the crown of the alpha's head, holding on with his hands gripped tight into the back of Jim's shirt. For the last few months, he'd thought he was one of the unlucky ones who's bond didn't break when their mate died but...
...Jim was alive. He'd been alive this whole time and Billy... Billy hadn't believed it. Hadn't been able to, the hope eating him alive until he gave up, listened to the doctors, believed them.
"I should've listened to her. I should... She tried to tell me and I didn't believe her."
"Shh. She's fine. I'm fine." He said softly, pulling him down into his lap.
"We're all fine." He said quietly before kissing his temple and slowly
rubbing his back and sides. "You aren't the only one who didn't believe,
Billy."
He sighed, looking into his mate's eyes. "I thought you had died too. I
couldn't...when they took me there was this moment. There was
just...nothing there. You were gone and I thought I'd lost you. I gave up."
Billy arrived at the cafe 15 minutes before Jim was going to get there. He ordered a latte and a couple of donuts and asked the barista if she knew what the Chief would drink and ordered that too.
He was sitting in the far corner facing the door, waiting anxiously and pulling apart his donut more than he was actually eating it.
That anxiety sky-rocketed when the Chief walked in and Billy smiled nervously and waved him over.
